Richard Magalad is a 30 year veteran of the ICT industry starting his career at the State Bank Victoria division of the Commonwealth bank where he received world-class training on Oracle, COBOL, NEC, IBM, Unisys and many other enterprise vendors. ​

 

As an educator, supporter and innovator Richard has been an IT director from 2010 working at a mining company with uranium, gold and diamond projects in Australia, Laos and Canada. ​​ Recent projects are systems integration for two of the large Telcos, several agencies in Federal Government and he is also active in providing strategic IT advice for the SMB market.

 

His current work involves cyber security missions on behalf of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in SE Asia as part of Cyber and Critical Tech Cooperation Program (CCTCP). Richard's other appointments have included: national congress and an executive committee member at the Australia Computer Society acs.org.au until 2020. ​

 

Currently Richard is the chairperson of Cloud branch for Australian Information Security Association aisa.org.au since 2022. ​ Richard is an Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) endorsed by Australian Signals Directorate (ASD).

Guest Presenter: Jacqui Loustau, Founder and Executive Director of:

Australian Women's Security Network (AWSN)

 

Jacqui is a cybersecurity expert with over 2 decades of global experience in IT and Information Security. She is passionate about security and collaborating with others to drive innovation and change within industry. Jacqui is the Founder and the Executive Director of the Australian Women in Security Network. She is also the co-founder of the AWSN Cadets, Security Job Profile Project, Project Friedman, and the Cybershift Alliance.

Jacqui started her career working in PC support and Helpdesks while at university in Australia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Information Systems and started working as a unix administrator before moving to Europe and into a career in cybersecurity. She spent 14 years working on various high profile projects as a security consultant in London and Paris, including within the European Commission, UK government, NHS and financial sector. She returned back to Australia in 2014 to work for a utility company, financial institution and a startup. At the same time, she created and built up the AWSN in her spare time before committing herself entirely to its mission.

Guest presenter  Daisy Wong,  Head of Security Awareness Medibank

Daisy 's expertise is just as dynamic, energetic and vibrant as her personality.  She radiates chic, not geek!   Specialising in cybersecurity leadership and disability advocate with a passion for building inclusive, people-first security cultures.  As Head of Security Awareness at Medibank, she brings over twelve years of experience across IT and finance, blending marketing expertise with technical insight to design impactful, accessible programs.

 

Born and raised in Melbourne with Hong Kong heritage and lived experience of spina bifida, Daisy brings a powerful intersectional lens to her work. Known for her bright pink wheelchair and even brighter leadership, she also serves as Sponsorship Manager at AWSN, championing visibility and access for women and people with disabilities in security.

Guest Presenter:   Jacinta Brouwer,  NAB Business Banking Executive, Government, Education and Community  

Jacinta is a senior banking executive with over 20 years of experience across three major banks. Throughout her career, Jacinta has held senior leadership positions in retail, business, and private banking.

 

Currently, Jacinta oversees Government, Education, and Community for NAB Business Bank across the South of Australia. Additionally, she serves as the Deputy Chair of not-for-profit organisation Anchor, which supports young people experiencing homelessness.

 

​Banks play a critical role in safeguarding the financial wellbeing of individuals and businesses, and strong cyber security measures are at the heart of that responsibility.

 

Modern banking systems invest heavily in advanced technologies, such as multi-factor authentication, real-time fraud detection, and encrypted communication, to protect customer accounts and sensitive data from cyber threats. Alongside technology, staff are trained in cyber risk awareness, and customers are encouraged to adopt safe online practices.
